The Psalmist asks God not to forsake him, even in his old age, but instead to be with him and sustain him so that he might proclaim God’s might to another generation, and God’s power to all those who come after him. The Psalmist was looking forward to his golden years, not so that he could kick back, but so that he could minister more effectively. The Psalmist was working to fulfil the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).
