In this, the first of five sermons in the Book of Revelation, Jason orients us to the message of the book. Firstly, addressing the misconception that the final book of the Bible is about imparting secrets to us about the future of the world. The genres of Revelation (Apocalypse, Prophecy and Epistle) warn us against such sensationalistic interpretations, and push us towards more reasonable and practical understandings of Revelation. And secondly, the Oracles of Revelation (Revelation 2-3) help us get a feel for the situations facing the seven churches, which prompted John to write (and Jesus to reveal) in the first place. These were churches face pressure from their society to compromise their convictions, and capitulate in the idolatry of their culture. And John writes Revelation to counsel these Churches to stand firm in the Gospel!

Jason Bryan-Brown, introducing the Book of Revelation, on the 21st of May, 2017.
